The Ladd Arboretum’s windmill came down this week. The windmill was installed in 1980, but had fallen into disrepair. The Evanston Environmental Association’s Harold Benjamin was quoted in the Chicago Tribune that summer: “We’re trying to demonstrate that there are other sources of energy that can be used to supplement the existing ones. If we could prove this, it would help to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.”
