Last year, Judy received the American Birding Association’s Betty Petersen Award for Conservation and Community for her decades of work in bird conservation. That included helping to start Chicago’s Lights Out Program, which works to reduce light pollution during birds’ spring and fall migration. Judy is also a founder of the recently formed Bird-Friendly Evanston group, which advocates locally for architectural solutions to bird collisions.
If you can’t make it to the bird walk next week, check eBird for recent sightings around Evanston. The Ladd Arboretum and Harbert Park are among the eBird birding “hot spots.” You can join eBird for free and share your own sightings, or explore the site without setting up an account. eBird was created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, home of All About Birds. That site also provides tips about how to create bird-friendly habitat around home, like this recent post: “A Yard Full of Native Plants Is a Yard Full of Well-Fed Birds.”
